New York Governor Hochul announces new steps to deliver affordable, reliable clean energy for New Yorkers

NEW YORK — Today, Governor Hochul announced a bold investment of $1 billion for energy affordability and clean air measures, helping shore up popular state programs and fund much-needed upgrades to our homes, schools, and energy grid. The investment announcement made during Climate Week launched the Governor's new Clean Highly Affordable and Reliable Grid Expansion (CHARGE) initiative and a new comprehensive statewide energy infrastructure planning process. 

“As New Yorkers throughout the state are suffering from increasingly expensive energy bills, the CHARGE agenda will put state resources to work to deliver benefits people can see and feel by cutting utility bills and pollution from projects like home and school weatherization,” said Kate Boicourt, New York State Director at Environmental Defense Fund. 

“The Governor’s commitment to also launch a new comprehensive energy infrastructure planning process is a great step toward smarter, cleaner, and cheaper energy systems.”
