Texas Takes Positive Step toward Realizing Its Solar Potential
Statement from John Hall, Texas State Director, Clean Energy
(AUSTIN – May 27, 2015) Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently signed into law Senate Bill (SB) 1626, sponsored by Senator José Rodriguez (D-El Paso), which removes barriers for Texas homeowners to take advantage of solar energy. Previously, homes in developing neighborhoods could not install solar panels until the development was complete – a process that could last years after people had purchased their houses.
“Senator Rodriguez’s bill is an important step for Texas’ clean energy economy. Texas leads the nation in solar potential and the passage of SB 1626 signals we are getting closer to taking advantage of that opportunity. We still have a long way to go, but a thriving state solar industry would mean more local jobs and less pollution from coal-fired power plants – a win-win for the economy and the environment.”
