EDF Statement on the Passing of Manfredi Caltagirone
Statement from EDF Chief Scientist Steven Hamburg
“We were devastated to learn of the passing of our colleague Manfredi Caltagirone, the charming and dedicated founder and leader of UN Environment Programme’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO). His innovative approach to bringing data to bear on tracking climate-warming methane emissions is a sterling example of how to use integrative science to drive more effective climate policy worldwide.
Manfredi was not only a talented and passionate advocate for science-based policy development but a doting husband and father of two. He threw his heart into all his endeavors, both work and family. He will be sorely missed by us all. His profound legacy will continue to serve humanity and the natural world.”
With more than 3 million members, Environmental Defense Fund creates transformational solutions to the most serious environmental problems. To do so, EDF links science, economics, law, and innovative private-sector partnerships to turn solutions into action. edf.org
