EDF Files Amicus Brief in Support of Apple’s Climate Strategy
Statement of Elizabeth Sturcken, Vice President of Net Zero Ambition and Action at Environmental Defense Fund
Environmental Defense Fund has filed an amicus brief in support of Apple in the class action lawsuit Dib v. Apple, which challenges the company’s carbon neutral claim for the Series 9 Apple Watch. The brief underscores EDF’s position that Apple’s approach – deep decarbonization paired with high-quality carbon credits – represents credible climate action.
“Apple’s carbon neutral strategy for the Series 9 Watch is best in class. The company cut nearly 80% of product-related emissions across its supply chain, then addressed the remainder by investing in nature through high-quality carbon credits.”
“Restoring and protecting nature is one of the most immediate ways we can fight climate change and preserve biodiversity. Companies that take those steps transparently and responsibly alongside science-aligned emissions reductions should be supported, not penalized. Our amicus brief is meant to give Apple and other companies the confidence to stay ambitious to tackle climate change.”
