California Governor Reinforces Climate Goals in 2015 State-of-the-State Address
Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) applauds the governor’s announcement of major new goals on renewable energy, transportation fuels, and energy efficiency
(SAN FRANCISCO – January 5, 2015) In his joint inaugural and state-of-the-state address, California’s Governor Jerry Brown today announced a bold and ambitious 15 year climate change agenda. His three-part goal includes a commitment to increase renewable energy generation from 33% to 50%, cut petroleum use by 50%, and double the efficiency of existing buildings.
“Governor Brown’s relentless commitment to tackle climate change couldn’t be more important or timely,” said Derek Walker, Associate Vice President for Environmental Defense Fund. “The world is moving toward an inflection point on climate action and Governor Brown is showing how California innovation and ingenuity will deliver deep reductions in pollution from electricity, transportation fuels, and working lands while growing the state’s economy for decades to come.”
