Description
Bärbel Henneberger leads EDF’s efforts to provide technical support to regional and national level Indigenous Peoples and local community (IP & LC) organizations for their effective participation in the design of jurisdictional REDD+ programs and carbon markets. She also works with IP & LCs to ensure their effective participation at multilateral forums, including the UNFCCC climate conference, as well as specific processes like the Tropical Forest Credit Integrity Guide.
Bärbel supports the participatory development of the socio-cultural co-benefit certification of The REDD+ Environmental Excellence Standard (TREES), together with the Architecture for REDD+ Transactions (ART) as well as regional and national level IP & LC organizations from Central Africa, South and Central America.
Background
Originally from Germany, Bärbel has lived in South America for more than 15 years, where she worked with Indigenous organizations and other non-governmental organizations in the Amazon on capacity building related to natural resource management, climate change, and environmental monitoring of extractive industries. She also supported Indigenous organizations with political advocacy to advance their access to climate finance, analyzing carbon stocks located in Indigenous territories and national and sub-national level policies.
