One of the greatest threats to the oceans is overfishing, which is why our dedicated team of scientists, economists, and fishery management experts are collaborating with partners around the globe to make sustainable fishing the norm. Through our programs in the U.S., Latin America, and Asia Pacific, we draw on strong science and economic principles to advance sustainable fishing practices, forward-looking policies and innovative tools that support the health of our oceans and the people who depend on them for food and their livelihoods.
In Indonesia, EDF has been working since 2019 under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. At the provincial level, EDF works in 4 different geographic in Indonesia to advance sustainable fisheries management. To support government produced management intervention based on science, EDF in partnership with national scientist, local NGO and communities continue to work on monitoring fisheries performance indicators through collecting data for fisheries target.
Overall Function
The intern will support the smooth implementation of EDF's sustainable fisheries and environmental management programs in Indonesia. This includes assisting with administrative and operational tasks, and contributing to program reporting and documentation. The intern to be an integral part of the team, participating in team meetings, field activities and other functions. This is an excellent opportunity for the intern to use fisheries knowledge, update fisheries technologies and gain organizational skills into practice.The intern will gain valuable technical skills and network with stakeholders, enhancing both their professional growth and the program’s long-term impact on fisheriessustainability. Additionally, the intern will play a key role in fostering their own professional growth and capacity building, and will form a valuable foundation for a career in environmental management.
Key Responsibilities
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
- Assist the preparation for Draft Terms of Reference (ToR) and support the program implentation.
- Support in compiling and formating reports in alignment with donor and internal requirements.
- Network with EDF staff and stakeholders to gain exposure to the environmental management field.
- Engage in relevant training and activities to build understanding of sustainable fisheries management.
- Support communications and media engagement with supervision from EDF staff.
- Prepare summary of meetings and maintain program documentation (attendance list, minutes of meeting, photos).
- Perform other tasks in accordance with the direction of EDF leaders and supervisors.
- Support administrative and operational needs, including scheduling and tracking deliverables.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of required documentation and records.
- Participate in advancing EDF’s organizational effectiveness and culture goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
Qualifications
- Recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in marine and fisheries, biology, environmental study, or from a relevant field of study.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Indonesian.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrate interest in environmental issues, particularly sustainable fisheries.
- Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across all cultures and backgrounds.
- Flexibility to travel program locations if needed.

Remote from Bandar Lampung.

Full-Time (40 hours per week)
